William Adams supplies new, used and rental Caterpillar® equipment and is headquartered in Clayton. Stellmann Aqualine PU PRO in Light Grey has upgraded the training facilities where customers can get certified to with virtual reality simulators as well as the real trucks, excavators, etc.

Williams Adams serves as Caterpillar’s authorized dealer in Victoria, offering sales, rental, parts, and service support for Caterpillar machinery and engines across various industries such as construction, agriculture, forestry, and mining. Additionally, they provide financing and technology solutions to meet their customers’ needs.

In their new training facility, where customer use with virtual reality simulators and real equipment, Williams Adams sought to enhance the concrete floors with a durable Light Grey coating that would also be slip-resistant to protect customers from potential water and oil spills. There was also a requirement for good adhesion to metal, as the facility previously had metal rails in the middle of the room that needed to be over-coated.

Application

To preparation of the concrete surface included a grind as the floor had been exposed to oils and other contaminants. This not only removed stains and contaminants but also facilitated excellent adhesion of the first “prime layer” of the Stellmann Aqualine PU PRO Application. Unlike epoxy coatings and other concrete floor coatings, Stellmann Aqualine PU PRO does not need a separate primer application. Instead, the initial layer of the VOC-free coating is diluted with water to deeply penetrate the concrete.

Following the drying of the first layer, the second “finish coat” is applied. To achieve the desired non-slip finish, Stellmann Non-Slip Particles are incorporated into the mixture of Part A and Part B. Thanks to the excellent pot-life of Aqualine PU PRO (2 to 4 hours) and its exceptional rollability, the particles can be evenly distributed without clustering or leaving areas without particles, as is common with other coating systems.

Another advantage over epoxy coatings is the UV resistance of Stellmann Aqualine PU PRO. The premium-quality coating remains unaffected by sunlight, avoiding issues such as yellowing or cracking that are common with non-UV-resistant epoxy coatings. Given that the training facility doors are frequently open during the day, Williams Adams opted for a coating system proven to withstand the harsh Australian sun. Of course, the coating also required to be suitable for traffic of heavy equipment, forklifts, etc.
