Our Story – Born From Loss. Built on Purpose.
Stellmann wasn’t born in a boardroom.
It was created from loss - raw, personal, and preventable.
Years ago, I (Dano) broke my C5 vertebrae in a devastating accident.
One wrong move - and that could’ve been the end.
Months of painful rehab followed.
Every day was a fight to move, to feel, to be independent again.
Then, just as life was starting to feel normal again, tragedy struck.
A close family friend - someone I’d had dinner with the night before - slipped on a wet staircase on their way home.
The next morning, I got the call.
He’d been found unconscious - severe head trauma.
He survived. But everything changed.
He had to relearn how to walk. How to talk. How to live.
Jelmer’s Turning Point
Around the same time at a different place, Jelmer’s aunt suffered a severe fall in her own home - a place that should’ve been safe.
The injuries left her physically broken, emotionally shaken, and stripped of her independence.
Her recovery was long, painful, and deeply disruptive for her entire family.
That moment connected us.
Two friends who had seen too much to stay silent.
What We Realised
Most accidents don’t happen in dangerous places.
They happen in the places we trust the most — our homes, our showers, our workplaces.
That realisation became the spark for Stellmann.
Because once you’ve lived through something that should’ve ended you…
And watched the people you love lose everything to a slip that could’ve been prevented…
You can’t turn away.
You have to do something about it.
The Beginning of Stellmann
In 2019, Jelmer and I started our mission to stop such accidents before they happen.
We started by introducing advanced non-slip technologies from Europe - not as manufacturers, but as believers in better safety.
But importing wasn’t enough. We saw that Australia needed something more than just products - it needed a brand built on purpose and trust, not just performance.
So we built Stellmann from the ground up.

Dano has scaled companies across hospitality, fitness and food before co-founding Stellmann. After a personal spinal injury and witnessing a close friend’s devastating fall, he turned a life-changing experience into a national mission: to make every step in Australia safer. Since moving to Australia from Switzerland, he has specialized in the coatings sector, driving Stellmann’s growth from start-up to trusted national brand. Today, Dano leads strategy, marketing, and the customer-first vision that has helped protect 10,000+ homes, Airbnb’s, and commercial facilities across the country.
Jelmer Stellingwerf
With over 15 years in coatings and business development, Jelmer combines chemical expertise with product innovation to set Stellmann apart. Having lived and worked across Europe before co-founding Stellmann, he brings Swiss precision and international credibility to every solution. Jelmer is the force behind Stellmann’s CSIRO-certified coatings - ensuring they not only meet but exceed Australian and global slip-resistance standards. His work enables tradies, OTs, and facility managers to deliver results that are compliant, durable, and easy to maintain.
