Anti Slip Coating for Retail Floors: Case Study For Aldi Wyong - non-slip floor coating applied in grocery aisle

The ALDI Wyong project demonstrates Stellmann Non-Slip Coatings' expertise in delivering tailored anti slip coating for retail floors. For this project, Stellmann Non-Slip Clear was professionally applied to the ceramic tiles, ensuring optimal performance and achieving compliance with Australian slip resistance standards. The transparent coating maintains the original look of the tiles, preserving the aesthetic value of the environment without visibly changing the surface. Unlike some traditional coatings, Stellmann's solution does not yellow over time, ensuring long-term durability and visual appeal.

Slip resistance was measured using the pendulum test, and the product was tested to meet all relevant standards, providing confidence in safety and compliance. The improved grip benefits both customers and staff, reducing the risk of slips caused by moisture, chemicals, or other contaminants commonly found in retail environments. The product was delivered ready for installation at the Wyong site, and the professional installation process included the use of high-quality materials and accessories such as sprayers and cleaning supplies to facilitate proper application and ongoing maintenance.

While epoxy coatings are often used for anti-slip purposes, Stellmann's transparent solution offers specific advantages for retail settings, such as maintaining the floor's appearance and providing a seamless finish. This project highlights the importance of selecting the right anti-slip system and professional application to achieve both safety and aesthetic goals in commercial spaces.

ALDI Australia is a leading grocery retailer known for its affordable prices. Since opening its first store in Sydney in 2001, ALDI has rapidly expanded, now operating hundreds of stores across the country. ALDI Australia is committed to sustainability and safety, implementing the Stellmann Non-Slip Coating at their Wyong store.

To ensure their stores comply with safety standards and protect customers from slips and falls, ALDI Australia selected Stellmann Non-Slip Clear. After rigorous testing of various alternatives, our clear coating was chosen for its superior performance. The ALDI store in Wyong, NSW, was the first of several locations to benefit from our premium coating.

In the fresh fruit section and at the cashier areas, surfaces initially failed to meet Australian slip resistance standards. Stellmann Non-Slip Clear P3 Soft was selected as the ideal solution, offering enhanced slip resistance without compromising on design and cleanability. Unlike many other non-slip solutions, our P3 Soft formulation is easy to maintain with a mop or cleaning machine.

In addition to excellent slip resistance, our coating provides a UV-resistant seal, protecting tiles from spills and wear. This ensures a durable, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment for both customers and staff.

Maintenance and Upkeep of Non Slip Flooring

Maintaining the slip resistance of your anti slip floor covering is essential for ensuring ongoing safety and compliance in both residential and commercial projects. Whether you're managing a busy commercial kitchen, a public bathroom, or a high foot traffic retail space, regular maintenance is key to preserving the effectiveness of your non slip flooring and reducing the risk of slips and falls.

Routine cleaning is the first line of defense against contaminants that can compromise slip resistance. For most surfaces, daily cleaning with a mild detergent is recommended to remove grease, dirt, and other contaminants that may accumulate, especially in wet or high-use areas. In environments where slippery tiles are a concern—such as bathrooms, aged care facilities, and hospitals—consistent cleaning helps maintain the floor's slip rating and overall safety.

For outdoor areas or spaces exposed to heavy rainfall, pressure cleaning can be an effective way to remove stubborn debris. However, it's important to select a cleaning method that is suitable for your specific surface type and anti slip coating. Excessive or improper use of high-pressure cleaning equipment can wear down the non slip coating, potentially reducing its slip resistance over time. Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions to ensure the chosen cleaning method supports long term protection and does not damage the floor coating.

Regular inspections are equally important, particularly in high foot traffic zones like commercial projects, shopping centers, and public stairs. Over time, even the most durable non slip solutions can show signs of wear. By routinely checking for areas where the anti slip treatment may be thinning or compromised, you can address issues promptly—either through spot treatment or full reapplication—before they become a safety risk.

Adhering to the Australian Standard AS 4586 for slip resistance provides a reliable benchmark for ongoing maintenance. This standard outlines the necessary slip ratings for different environments, helping you ensure that your slip floor remains compliant and effective. For commercial spaces, maintaining compliance is not only a matter of safety but also a legal requirement.

Ultimately, a proactive approach to maintenance—combining regular cleaning, thorough inspections, and timely reapplication of non slip coatings—delivers a cost effective and durable anti slip solution. This not only extends the lifespan of your flooring but also safeguards users from potential falls, making it an essential practice for any site, from residential homes to large-scale commercial projects. By investing in proper upkeep, you maintain both the appearance and the critical safety features of your floors, ensuring peace of mind for everyone who walks on them.
