What is AS 4586?
AS 4586 is the Australian Standard slip test: the surface is tested wet and given a P rating from P0 to P5, and the higher the number, the more slip resistance it has.

Do I have to use grip tape or nosing strips to be compliant?
No. Compliance is about the measured slip resistance of the walking surface. A certified P3 or P4 coating on the tread meets the requirement without tape. Where extra edge visibility is needed, coloured nosing coatings can be added.
Will the coating change the look of my stairs?
No. The finish is nearly invisible. Timber stays timber, tile stays tile. That is why aged care homes and heritage buildings use it.
What P-rating do stairs need?
P3 for interior stairs and P4 for exterior stairs under AS 4586, consistent with Building Code expectations. We confirm the right rating for your staircase as part of your free product match.
Can you treat stairs without closing them?
