Extended company description: Stellmann supplies European-made anti-slip floor coatings, non-slip paints and surface treatments across Australia. Established in 2019 and based in South Melbourne, it was founded by Dano Estermann and Jelmer Stellingwerf. CSIRO has tested samples of its Non-Slip Clear PRO and Aqualine PU PRO coatings under Australian Standard AS 4586.

The range includes clear non-slip coatings for tiles and stone, coloured polyurethane floor paints and line marking paint. The coatings add slip resistance to existing floors without removing them. Stellmann supplies the products and trains and certifies installers through its Certified Installer Program; it does not carry out installations itself. Its coatings have been used in 1,924 commercial projects since 2019, including for ANZ and Four Seasons Sydney.

Test reports

CSIRO testing. CSIRO tested Stellmann Non-Slip Clear PRO on ceramic tile and Aqualine PU PRO on cement sheet to Australian Standard AS 4586:2013, using the wet pendulum method (report SW8557, September 2024). Wet pendulum results ranged from P3 to P5, depending on the product grade and the test slider. The full reports are on the Specs & Resources page. CSIRO reports may only be reproduced in full.

Independent site tests. The proof wall shows 20 wet pendulum reports from floors treated with Stellmann coatings, including busway platforms in Brisbane, a hospital entrance in New Farm and restaurant kitchens in Sydney. Most are on-site tests to AS 4663, which record a value on the day of the test. Where a report gave no classification, Stellmann has banded its result against AS 4586.

Wear testing. To request accelerated wear test report AWT011021-1 (Sliptest Australia), email us.

Founders

Dano Estermann, co-founder. Dano co-founded Stellmann and leads its strategy and marketing. Originally from Switzerland, he built businesses in hospitality, fitness and food before Stellmann. His path to slip safety was personal: he broke his C5 vertebra in a serious accident, and soon after, a close family friend suffered severe head trauma after slipping on a wet staircase. Dano Estermann on LinkedIn.

Dano can comment on founding Stellmann after his injury, building an import business, and the Certified Installer Program.

Jelmer Stellingwerf, co-founder. Jelmer co-founded Stellmann and leads product development. He has more than 15 years in coatings and business development across European and Australian markets. After his aunt was badly hurt in a fall at home, he set out to bring European anti-slip coating technology to Australia. Jelmer Stellingwerf on LinkedIn.

Jelmer can comment on slip testing (AS 4586 and AS 4663), choosing a coating for a surface, and maintaining coated floors.

Contact Stellmann to arrange an interview with either founder. Interviews are subject to availability.

Story ideas

  • What a slip rating actually means. How P ratings work, the difference between a laboratory test and an on-site test, and how to read a slip test report.
  • Coating existing floors. How aged care homes, clubs and commercial buildings choose, apply, test and maintain anti-slip coatings on floors that are already there.
  • Falls in Australia. Falls led to 253,800 hospitalisations in 2024-25, 43.4 per cent of all injury hospitalisations (AIHW). These figures cover all falls, not only slips on floors, and do not measure the effect of any coating.
  • A new trade service. How tilers, flooring contractors and cleaning firms add non-slip coating to their work. Read about the Certified Installer Program. Stories from Stellmann Certified Installers are available on request, subject to their permission.
  • The founder story. Two founders, three serious accidents, and a business built to make floors less slippery.
  • Building a business on European-made products. Importing and growing a coatings brand in the Australian market.

Questions from journalists

Where are Stellmann coatings made?

Stellmann coatings are made in Europe and supplied across Australia from South Melbourne.

Does Stellmann install the coatings?

No. Stellmann supplies the coatings. A Stellmann Certified Installer applies them, or customers apply them with a DIY kit.

Where can I read the slip test reports?

CSIRO test reports are on Stellmann's Specs & Resources page. Independent site reports are on the proof wall. Check each report for the product, surface, method and result.

Does a slip rating guarantee that nobody will fall?

No. A slip rating describes performance under stated test conditions. It does not guarantee that nobody will fall. Surface preparation, installation, cleaning and wear affect performance. Independent slip testing can be arranged for commercial jobs.

Does a coating mean a floor is compliant?

A coating alone does not establish compliance. A slip test records performance under stated conditions. Independent slip testing can be arranged for commercial jobs.

Can I request a product sample or demonstration?

Email your outlet, the story and your deadline, and we will talk it through.

Can I interview a founder?

Email info@stellmann.com.au with your outlet, topic, deadline and a preferred time. Interviews are arranged subject to availability.
