Non-Slip Coating for Bathrooms

Worried About a Slip in the Bathroom?

Homeowners, carers and facility managers: the bathroom is the one room where a wet floor is guaranteed every single day. Stellmann’s non-slip coating for bathrooms is CSIRO-tested and certified to AS 4586 P3 for wet barefoot areas. It grips when wet, stays nearly invisible on tiles and stone, and is safe for skin contact.

What sets Stellmann apart: certified P3 grip without the rough, dirt-trapping texture. Your bathroom looks almost the same, it just stops being slippery.

Trusted in the places a slip costs the most: Aged Care, Hospitality, Healthcare & Family Homes

What is AS 4586?

AS 4586 is the Australian Standard slip test: the surface is tested wet and given a P rating from P0 to P5, and the higher the number, the more slip resistance it has.

Australians aged 65 and over are hospitalised for falls 12 times more often than adults aged 25 to 44 (AIHW, Injury in Australia 2024-25), and most of those falls happen at home — the bathroom floor is the first place to act.

Why Bathroom Floors Fail the Slip Test

Wet Tiles Lose Grip Fast. Soap and Daily Moisture Make It Worse.

Glazed tiles and polished stone lose most of their grip the moment they get wet. Soap and shampoo residue make it worse. That is why bathrooms need a P3 wet barefoot rating under AS 4586, not just a floor that feels fine when dry.

Owners Corporation

An elderly parent slips stepping out of the shower onto wet tiles. The family wants the floor made safe without a renovation.

Hotels

A hotel guest falls getting out of the bath onto polished stone. The hotel needs certified slip resistance that does not change the look of the bathroom.

Family Homes

A homeowner with young kids wants bath-time to stop being a hazard in a newly renovated bathroom.

Aged Care

An aged care facility needs documented P3 compliance in resident bathrooms before its next accreditation audit.

In each case the fix is the same: a certified coating that reduces slip risk while keeping the bathroom looking the way it should.

How professional treatment works

How It Works: Profile, Treat, Verify, Maintain

Slip safety is a process, not a one-off product. Stellmann’s system follows four documented steps.

1

Profile

Call or send an enquiry. We assess your surface first: what it is made of, who uses the bathroom and how wet it gets. Then we match the right Stellmann product and P-rating to it. For commercial and facility projects, an on-site assessment and slip test can be arranged.

2

Treat

Certified installers apply the coating, or confident DIYers roll it on with a kit. No acid, no etching, no grinding. Low odour, and most bathrooms are cured in up to 12 hours*.

3

Verify

Treated surfaces are certified to their AS 4586 P-rating at the time of treatment and testing. Professional jobs are backed by the FEEL-THE-GRIP GUARANTEE* (terms and conditions apply).

4

Maintain

Every job comes with a maintenance guide and a recommended re-test schedule, because grip must be kept, not just installed.

MULTI-SURFACE COMPATIBLE

Surfaces We Treat in Bathrooms

Stellmann’s coating is tested across the surfaces bathrooms are actually made of. Read the guide for your surface:

Stellmann vs acid etching

Most "Anti-Slip" Treatments Attack The Surface. Ours Bonds To It

Most alternatives acid-etch the floor: acid etching roughens a floor by eating into its surface with acid. That chemically attacks the tile to create texture, dulls the finish, and typically wears off within 6 to 12 months. Stellmann’s dual-component polyurethane coating forms a long-term bond with the surface instead for years to come. No chemical damage, certified grip, and a finish that still looks like your bathroom. The same CSIRO-tested technology is used across our 1,924 Commercial Projects since 2019.

Acid Etching

Chemically attacks and dulls the surface
Can damage finishes and affect surface warranties
Grip often fades within months in constant moisture
Rough texture can trap dirt and bacteria
Rarely comes with documented test results

Stellmann Coating

Dual-component coating bonds without chemical damage
Nearly invisible: the shower looks the same
Formulated to hold up in wet, high-traffic showers
Smooth, hygienic finish that's easy to clean
Documented P-rating to AS 4586 for every treated area

Questions, answered

Bathroom Coating FAQs

Will the coating change the look of my bathroom floor?

No. The coating is nearly invisible. Your tiles keep their colour and finish, they just grip when wet. Underfoot there is a slight grit rather than a rough texture. Acid treatments etch and dull the surface; this does not.

Is it safe for bare feet and kids?

Yes. The cured coating is safe for skin contact, low odour and water-based, which is why it is used in aged care bathrooms and family homes alike.

What P-rating does a bathroom need?

AS 4586 calls for P3 as the minimum for wet barefoot areas like bathrooms. We confirm the right rating for your bathroom as part of your free product match, because usage and surface type can change the recommendation.

Does it qualify for NDIS home modifications?

Stellmann coatings are suitable for NDIS-funded bathroom safety modifications, and we supply the slip-resistance documentation OTs and planners need for the funding application.

How long does it last in a bathroom?

Years, not months, when maintained as specified. Lifespan depends on traffic and cleaning methods, so every job includes a maintenance guide and a recommended re-test schedule.

Will it change the look of a gloss tile?

On a gloss tile the sheen can change slightly toward satin; that is the only visible difference most customers notice.
